Jimmy Silalahi : SMSI Not Registered in Press Council

Member of the Legal Press Council Jimmy Silalahi confirmed that the Serikat Media Syber Indonesia (SMSI) is not registered in the Press Council. Therefore, SMSI should not carry the name of the Press Council for its self and group interests with political and economic objectives.

Jimmy Silalahi said it, when asked for confirmation about the existence of SMSI in  Focus group  discussion about press of  freedom at Haris Hotel Denpasar, on Friday, August 11, 2017.

"The person can be categorized as spreading false news and attempts to deceive government agencies," he said.

In this case, Jimmy hopes the parties who feel harmed can report the person to the Press Council. This is important to do in the process of educating the press forward. In create a press company then the company must have a legal entity. So that,   If there is a problem the Press Council can help it from the legal side.
"How the Press Council can help him legally, while the press company is not a legal entity" Jimmy Silalahi said.
In the future, the Press Council's challenges are getting tougher. Especially, today there has been a change of public view from the print media to digital media. To this end, the Press Council has anticipated the development of online digital media as a medium that is widely accessible by the community. Press Council, he said, has appreciated the development of online media or cyber in Indonesia.
