DENPASAR, Balitopnews.com - Secretary of the Bali Province Covid-19 Task Force, Made Rentin said the Province of Bali, including all regencies/cities in Bali, had exceeded the requirements to get a booster or third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

He explained that the achievement of vaccination in Bali until January 11, 2022 reached 102.77% for the 1st dose of vaccine and 91.46% for the 2nd dose of vaccine.

"Similarly, if we break down the vaccination achievements in each Regency/City in Bali, the average is already above 82%, namely Buleleng with the lowest achievement of 82.2% of Dose 1 and 71.2% of Dose 2, while the highest is Denpasar City. 149.3% Dose 1 and 132.8 % Dose 2," he said in Denpasar, Tuesday (January 11,2022).

He conveyed that the third dose of Covid-19 vaccination program (booster-ed) which began on January 12, 2022, will be given to people who have received the second dose of vaccine more than 6 months ago.

This program is prioritized for districts/cities with 70% vaccination achievement for dose 1 and 60% for dose 2, whose status can be checked at https://vacsin.kemkes.go.id/

The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, has decided that booster vaccines for the community will be provided free of charge to all Indonesians.

"I have decided that this third vaccine is free for all Indonesians because people's safety is paramount," Jokowi said as broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel, Tuesday ( January 11,2022).

Previously, the chairman of the Indonesian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (ITAGI), Sri Rezeki Hadinegoro, said there were three reasons why a booster vaccine was needed. Sri said a booster was needed because antibodies decreased in 6 months after vaccination and along with the emergence of new variants.

Moreover, until now it is not known when the pandemic will end, which makes people have to have high immunity. The last reason is equity, in the sense that everyone has the right to get access to vaccines in all provinces.

"Within 6 months the antibodies will decrease, are we strong enough to withstand it, especially if there is a virus mutation, we have to stop the transmission," Sri said in an online press conference.(gix)
