DENPASAR,Balitopnews.com - Governor of Bali Wayan Koster welcomed the plan for the Conference of Parties to the Minamata Convention on Mercury in Bali. The conference, which was held for the first time in Indonesia (Bali), will take place on March 21-25, 2022 with a bubble system considering that the Covid-19 pandemic is still ongoing.

This was conveyed by the Governor of Bali Wayan Koster when receiving an audience with the Director General of Waste Management, Waste and Hazardous Toxic Materials of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Rosa Vivien Ratnawati accompanied by Novrizal Tahar, Director of Waste Management, Directorate General of PSLB3-KLHK and Ni Nyoman Santi, Plt. Head of the Bali and Nusa Tenggara Ecoregion Development Control Center (P3E Bali Nusra), Friday morning ( January 14,2022) in Jaya Sabha, Denpasar.

The Director General of PSLB3 of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Rosa Vivien Ratnawati, on this occasion said that Indonesia (Bali) should be proud because so far the implementation of the Conference of Parties Minamata Convention on Mercury has always been held in Switzerland (the location of its secretariat).

"This is the first time Indonesia is the host. It will be followed by 137 countries with the number of participants reaching a thousand people," She said.

The conference will discuss mercury reduction and elimination for the health, manufacturing, energy and gold mining sectors. She hoped that the arrival of the conference participants would be able to develop the Indonesian economy, especially Bali, in the midst of the decline in tourism due to the pandemic.

"Of course the health protocol must also be considered with a bubble system. This means that during the event they will only be in a predetermined area. After the conference is over, they will again undergo a swab test, and if the result is negative then they will be able to enjoy Bali tourism. Considering that the participants have come all the way to Bali, later we will arrange all that," She explained.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, who on this occasion was accompanied by the Head of the Bali Provincial Forestry and Environment Service, I Made Teja, expressed his gratitude for choosing Bali as the location for the conference. The governor from Sembiran Village, Tejakula, Buleleng said that the conference would be able to revive the Balinese economy.

"Thank you for choosing Bali as the location for the event. This year, quite a lot of international events will be held in Bali. Of course I hope this will be able to stimulate the Balinese economy again," he said.

On this occasion, Koster continues to remind that health protocols are an important concern for the organizers so that there is no spread of new Covid-19 cases.

In closing, Governor Koster hopes that the conference participants will also be able to visit the Bali Bangkit IKM exhibition which will be held at the Cultural Park, Art Center, Denpasar. (Gix)
