JAKARTA,Balitopnews.com - The Governor of Bali Wayan Koster received an award from the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights for his achievements in Stimulating the Growth of Creativity and Intellectual Property Innovation in the context of National Economic Recovery. This award was presented at the Roving Intellectual Property Seminar on Monday ( November 21, 2022) at the Birawa Assembly Hall – Bidakara Hotel Jakarta, DKI Jakarta. 

On the same occasion, Chairperson of the Dekranasda Bali Province  Mrs. Putri Suastini Koster was also asked to receive an award as a Figure with an Active Role in Stimulating the Growth of Creativity and Innovation of Intellectual Property in the framework of National Economic Recovery. The number one companion figure in the Province of Bali is considered to play an active role in spurring the growth of creativity and innovation of intellectual property in the framework of national economic recovery, especially in its efforts to raise the traditional Balinese Endek weaving so that it is able to compete in the world of international fashion.

This award is an appreciation of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to the Provincial Government in spurring the growth of creativity and innovation of intellectual property in the context of national economic recovery. In this case, Governor Wayan Koster and the Provincial Government of Bali, are considered capable of providing protection and utilization of intellectual works as a work that arises from human intellectual abilities, which are valuable assets and have economic value. Especially in order to accelerate regional economic development based on intellectual property. Indonesian Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly praised the active steps of the Province of Bali in supporting Balinese Endek weaving. 

 Menkumham said that Endek had provided evidence that local intellectual property products were capable of going international and collaborating with well-known fashion brand Christian Dior. "Dior made 10 types of fashion designs made from Endek and took part in the Paris Fashion Week event," he explained. 

Menkumham also praised Governor Wayan Koster's policy on the Island of the Gods which required employees to wear Endek woven cloth as work uniforms. "This makes the economic engine run for the people's industry. The weavers are alive again. That's why we ask other governors and regents to also conduct an inventory of regional intellectual property. Maybe later NTT weaving will enter Louis Vuitton," he said.

 "Geographical indications are registered so that economic value increases. So that economic transformation becomes a necessity in the midst of world economic turmoil. The birth of inventors and creators can restore the Indonesian economy,"  minister Yasonna added. 


 Yasonna Laoly on this occasion emphasized efforts to strengthen provincial, district/city governments, and chancellors regarding the importance of intellectual property (IC) to be able to build an IP-based economy. "In welcoming the progress of the times and industry 4.0, creativity and innovation are important things," he said.

 According to Minister Yasonna, the exponential acceleration of the creative economy and digitalization of the world, aspects of intellectual property and its protection are important to welcome global trade that has no boundaries. "We will continue to innovate to serve designers, songwriters, inventors and others so that their products have legal force. Creations are fuel for intellectual property and industry,"  Menkumham said. 

 In Bali itself, since being led by Governor Wayan Koster until now, it has been recorded that there have been 279 Intellectual Property Certificates issued. Starting from trademark rights, copyrights, patents, and there are Geographical Indications for Amed Salt, Kusamba Salt, Kintamani Coffee, to Pupuan Coffee Geographical Indications. Acceleration continues to be carried out to meet people's expectations in handling Intellectual Property by forming a Regional Research and Innovation Agency (BRIDA). Improving Intellectual Property Services in the Province of Bali is one of the priorities carried out in accordance with the implementation of the regional development vision of Bali, namely Nangun Sat Kerthi Loka Bali through the Planned Universal Development Pattern towards a New Era of Bali by safeguarding and protecting various Balinese artistic and cultural productions through their intellectual property.

Met after the award ceremony, Chairperson of the   Dekranasda  Bali Provincial   Mrs Putri Suastini Koster expressed her appreciation for the Award for Figures Playing an Active Role in Stimulating the Growth of Creativity and Intellectual Property Innovation by the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights. "I am very grateful for this appreciation (award - ed). But this is not absolutely work alone but work with a team that we are proud of together,"  Mrs. Putri Koster said. 


This woman who is also a versatile artist hopes that the award, which was handed over directly by the RI Menkumham, will not make her forget herself. "Hopefully we will be more enthusiastic about becoming partners with the government in realizing government programs that lead to the welfare of craftsmen and artists with intellectual property rights," She said. "By doing so, they will feel protected and of course will increase the spirit of MSMEs by protecting our local arts and crafts and fulfilling the expectations of the government and our artists and craftsmen," She concluded.

Menparekraf Says Endek Appears at G20 thanks to the Struggle of Governor Koster and Mrs. Putri Koster'


On the same occasion, the Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, specifically mentioned Governor Koster as an excellent partner in the success of the G20 event in Bali. "Governor Wayan Koster, together with me personally picked up US President Joe Biden and sent off the Australian PM, and I also thank the Governor because the G20 has been successful in Bali," he said. Menparekraf said that Indonesia has now become the world's attention because of its success in hosting the G20 Summit in Bali. Not only because of nature but also our hospitality. "Joe Biden even immediately appreciated our leadership and our hospitality, so that we could produce the Bali Declaration,"  Sandiaga said. 

Menparekraf also invites all elements of society to continue to support the richness and diversity of craft culinary to local fashion as something to be proud of. "We give the example of the G20 souvenir, all local handicraft products. Then the appearance of the Endek cloth at the G20 gala dinner, the President of France, the British PM, the Canadian PM wore it, very handsome. Endek can be used at the G20 as a result of the efforts of Mr and Mrs Governor (Wayan Koster and Mrs. Putri Koster, ed). This means that not only do we have proud work, but world class," he shouted again, greeted by applause from participants from all over Indonesia. 


The former Vice Governor of DKI Jakarta also explained that 7.5 percent of Indonesia's GDP now comes from the creative economy. "We are number three in the world after the US and Korea for GDP from the creative industry. If Korea has Drakor, we have Drahor, a horror drama. Korea has KPop, we have Dapop, Dangdut pop," Sandiaga said. 

Meanwhile, the Acting Director General of Intellectual Property (Plt. Director General of IP) Razilu explained, this award was intended to provide strengthening of knowledge and understanding regarding IP and Communal IP and its development to Regional Heads, Institutional Leaders and academics and stakeholders. "This is to be able to move various elements to take advantage of the Intellectual Property system," he explained. 

The series of Roving Seminars on Intellectual Property of the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights and Minister Yasonna Heard have been held in North Sumatra, Solo and DIY, as well as South Sulawesi, and finally held in DKI Jakarta. Apart from the Governor of Bali, the Governors of West Java, Banten, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan and South Kalimantan were also present to receive the same award. There are also 20 Chancellors throughout Indonesia who received awards, 10 recipients for patents and 10 recipients for copyrights Also present were DPD RI Member Sylviana Murni, Chairperson of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the ranks of the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
