Megawati Soekarnoputri Asks for the Sanur Area to be Rearranged Like the Founding Fathers Bung Karno Era

DENPASAR, Balitopnews. com - The Fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. (H.C.) Megawati Soekarnoputri reviewed the construction of the Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Denpasar City on Monday (Soma Paing, Langkir) January 16, 2023 with the Chairperson of the Indonesian Parliament, Mrs. Puan Maharani, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) RI, Erick Thohir , Head of the National Innovation Research Agency (BRIN), Laksana Tri Handoko, Secretary General of the PDI Perjuangan, Hasto Kristiyanto, Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, Mayor of Denpasar, IGN Jaya Negara, and Regent of Badung, Nyoman Giri Prasta. Megawati explained, the First President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno who designed the Grand Inna Bali Beach hotel in Sanur, Denpasar City and built it in 1963 for the sake of advancing Indonesia on the international tourism stage.
Megawati explained that when Bung Karno building Grand Inna Bali Beach, Bung Karno wanted all of his workers to be from Indonesia. Bung Karno even sent Indonesian children to a hotel school in Switzerland so he could manage Grand Inna Bali Beach properly.
In the development of the Special Economic Zone, one of which is carrying out the revitalization of Grand Inna Bali Beach, Megawati Soekarnoputri gave directions so that the renovation of Grand Inna Bali Beach does not change the structure of the initial building and still maintains local culture such as a strong relief of historical significance. "Hotel or house buildings cannot be taller than a coconut tree, that was Bung Karno's order. why? In order for Bali to remain in its condition as a beautiful area and based on local cultural customs," emphasized the Chairman of the Steering Committee for the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency while stating that Hinduism in Bali really loves nature, so this is what is called Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. Concluding her remarks, the Fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, advised that, First, the Sanur area should be rearranged like in the Bung Karno era; Second, take care of Bali, so that the Bali that Bung Karno conveyed that Indonesia is green and royo-royo is like a string of emeralds at the equator; and Third, take care of the wealth of medicinal plants in the country, especially in Bali which originates from Lontar Usadha, especially since Bali in ancient times used Balian to treat all of them. “India and China are not shy about promoting their traditional medicinal plants. I have already discussed this with Pak Koster (Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, ed) so that we can continue to look for and dig up our medicinal plants, the source of which is Lontar Usadha," She concluded.
BUMN Minister Erick Thohir explained that the First President of the Republic of Indonesia as well as the Founding Fathers Ir. Soekarno had seen Bali as having tourism potential and from the start Bali wanted to be the heart of tourism. So that the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Sanur, which has an area of 41.26 hectares, will be managed by us having health facilities in the form of the Bali International Hospital and international standard clinics in collaboration with the largest hospital in the United States, the Mayo Clinic. Then revitalize the Bali Beach Hotel or Grand Inna Bali Beach (GIBB), establish a convention center, ethnomedicinal botanic garden, and commercial center. Special Economic Zones for basic infrastructure have been completed 100 percent, such as roads, sidewalks, cabling, and pipes. For the hotel, progress has reached 35.58 percent and we hope that in 2023 at the end of August it will be completed at the same time as the botanical garden area. Then, Bali International Hospital which will be the first hospital to have a wellness area for road health, meditation, which is a trend that is happening today. "We have accelerated the development of the Bali International Hospital. Even though there was a delay of 8 months in processing the permit, we are targeting the construction of the Bali International Hospital to be completed in November," reported BUMN Minister Erick Thohir.
Of the 41.26 hectares, we will make 22 hectares or 55 percent of the land into a green area. So we really take care of all the trees in this area. We also maintain the values of Balinese Customs and Culture by developing an ethnomedicinal botanic garden based on Lontar Usada Bali or manuscripts of traditional Balinese medicine using local herbs in collaboration with BRIN and health figures in Bali. Megawati Soekarnoputri for continuing to guide us in BUMN and providing guidance in developing BUMN as a national economic bastion, one of which is by returning tourism as economic growth and employment growth.
