Chairperson of the TP PKK Bali Province Mrs. Putri Koster Promotes Family-Based Rabies Management in Buleleng Regency

SINGARAJA, Balitopnews.com - Rabies cases are still high in several regencies in Bali and there is still a lack of public awareness to vaccinate against rabies for their pets, especially dogs, monkeys, cows and cats, and the dangers of rabies because it can be life threatening if treatment is late, the Head of TP PKK Bali Province Mrs. Putri Koster conducted socialization on Family-Based Rabies Management in Buleleng Regency. Presenting three other speakers, namely the Acting Regent of Buleleng Ketut Lihadnyana, Head of the Bali Provincial Health Office Nyoman Gede Anom and Head of the Bali Province Agriculture and Food Security Service I Wayan Sunada, carried out socialization on RRI Singaraja and Radio Semeton Takdir, Seririt, Buleleng, Tuesday (January 24, 2023).

Overseeing her directions, Mrs. Putri Koster said that rabies, which is caused by animals around us, such as dogs and cats, cannot be taken lightly because if it is handled late it can be life threatening. There is still a lack of socialization in the community regarding efforts to prevent rabies and what to do if someone is bitten by a dog, causing recent cases of death from rabies to increase and even three districts namely Buleleng, Jembrana and Karangasem enter the Red Zone

‌For this reason, the woman who is fondly called Bunda Putri asked that PKK cadres from the provincial to dasa homestead levels participate actively in outreach in the community regarding the importance of the rabies vaccine if the family has pets and helping local residents if someone is bitten by a dog. or a cat to be taken to a health center and get an anti-rabies vaccine. Bunda Putri also asked PKK cadres to come down to pick up the ball, to go down directly to target families who have pets so that they vaccinate their animals and not throw away or let the animals go wild. By synergizing with relevant stakeholders, PKK cadres are also expected to conduct education regarding the dangers of rabies because it can be life threatening if not handled quickly and appropriately. The same thing was conveyed by Pj. The Regent of Buleleng said that efforts to prevent rabies must be carried out in synergy and involve all stakeholders. Besides that, the active role of the community is very importantin efforts to suppress rabies cases. Not only that, traditional villages can also make regulations or pararem to regulate their manners who have pets or pararem for wild animals. With the synergy of the government, community and traditional villages, he is optimistic that rabies cases in Bali can be controlled. Acting Regent Lihadnyana also added that currently around 90.80% of pets in Buleleng Regency have been vaccinated and in the future vaccination will be intensified. With this effort, it is hoped that Buleleng Regency will leave the rabies red zone and become a rabies-free district.

‌Meanwhile, the Head of the Agriculture and Food Security Service for the Province of Bali said that rabies or also known as mad dog disease is transmitted by warm-blooded animals such as dogs, cats, monkeys and monkeys. This disease if transmitted to the human body and not handled properly can be dangerous and can even cause loss of life. For this reason, efforts to prevent rabies are carried out through rabies vaccination campaigns for domestic dogs and stray dogs. Not only that, the government has also formed rabies alert teams in villages to expedite vaccines and educate the public not to let their pets go wild and immediately go to a health facility if bitten by an animal to get an anti-rabies vaccine injection. The Head of the Bali Provincial Health Office also conveyed that rabies can be transmitted not only through a hard bite, even a slight bite and even an open wound licked by a dog can transmit the virus to our bodies. For this reason, it is very important if we keep pets at home to vaccinate them and not let them go wild. The head of the health department also explained that if someone gets injured as a result of being bitten by an animal, wash them immediately with running water and soap or detergent, then treat them with betadine or alcohol and immediately go to a health facility to get an injection of the anti-rabies virus.
