DENPASAR, Balitopnews.com - To prevent the widespread spread of COVID-19 through local transmission, the Department of Industry and Trade (Perindag) of Bali Province conducted a review of a number of traditional markets in Denpasar City, Friday (June 19, 2020) This review aims to ensure that health protocols such as the use of masks, availability of hand washing facilities and physical distancing are properly implemented.

The team led directly by the Head of the Department of Industry and Trade I Wayan Jarta started monitoring at the Desa Adat Penatih Market. In this market, the team found that the COVID-19 spread prevention health protocol was implemented quite well. At the entrance, the market manager installs a disinfectant booth that must be passed by market visitors. In addition, strict protocols are also applied to traders such as the use of masks, hand slippers and some traders appear to equip themselves with face shields. Moreover, the market management also implements a layered security system by installing a plastic barrier to limit direct interaction between traders and consumers. To meet the distance guard protocol, traders in the court are separated by a dividing line. Not only that, the market manager continuously plays records containing education related to COVID-19 and its prevention efforts.

The Head of the Adat Penatih Village Market Made Arta who received the Bali Disperindag Team explained that since the outbreak of the COVID-19 case in Denpasar City, his office has implemented strict protocols in the market area. He admitted, efforts to discipline the public and business people in the market were not as easy as turning the palm of the hand. Initially many were maboya (ngeyel) because the rules were considered complicated and made uncomfortable. But slowly, awareness began to grow and people began to discipline in implementing health protocols, especially in the market area. Pakraman Penatih Village Market accommodates 87 traders, with operational hours starting at 05.00 local time. In the midst of the COVID-19 inhabitants, the market manager conducts four disinfecting highlights every week.

Similar conditions were also found in the second location that was reviewed by the Bali Disperindag Team, namely Pasar Rakyat Kerta Waringin Sari, Angabaya Village. The market that has won the SNI title applies strict protocols for market visitors and traders. When entering the market, visitors must wear masks and pass through the disinfectant booth. Traders also apply strict protocols. In addition to wearing masks and hand slippers, some traders also wear face shields for maximum protection. Market managers adjust the distance of traders so that it meets the health protocol standard COVID-19. In line with what was conveyed by the Head of the Adat Penatih Village Market, the Head of the Kerta Waringin Sari People's Market I Made Sukrasena said that disciplining the community in the market area needed a process. Because it is considered complicated, initially many did not heed the rules of the use of masks. "But slowly, they are getting used to and disciplined. Especially lately the case of local transmission in the market area is increasing, they become more obedient, "he explained.

The heads of markets in both markets expressed their appreciation and gratitude for the visit from the Bali Disperindag Team. This is a form of attention that makes them more excited.

From the results of monitoring, the Head of the Bali Provincial Industry and Trade Office, Wayan Jatra, assessed that the two traditional markets have been quite optimal in implementing health protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19. According to Jarta, this monitoring is related to the increasing trend of local transmission in traditional market clusters that occurred in the last few days. Jarta added, this step is a form of support for the Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling COVID-19 Bali Province which is trying to control the spread of this outbreak. Jarta appreciated the innovation carried out in these two traditional markets, namely by installing plastic boundaries between traders and buyers. According to him, this step is a layered security that is expected to be more effective in preventing transmission of COVID-19.

On that occasion, he also expressed his hope that market managers would form a special task force for the discipline of implementing the COVID-19 health protocol. "When they sit in the task force, they will be more willing to reprimand if there is a violation," he said. He wants strict sanctions against those who are stubborn and do not adhere to health protocols. According to him, efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 require awareness of all parties in the market area. "For traders, if they already feel sick, don't force yourself to sell. Conversely, consumers who shop also must heed health protocols such as using masks and washing hands in the space provided. In essence, clean entry and exit must also be clean so that it is safe for all, taking care of each other, ”he added

In this review, the Head of Bali's Industry and Trade Office handed over 100 pcs of masks for each market. Traditional market monitoring will continue to be carried out so that the spread of COVID-19 can be prevented. (Gix)
