The Governor of Bali Wayan  Koster expressed his pride that the international organization for the protection and development of all pure dog breeds and strains in the world, officially recognized the Kintamani Bali Dog as one of its own breeds, native to Indonesia.

Moreover, this recognition is the first time for dogs native to Indonesia. "As a Balinese I am very proud of the appreciation we receive from the international community," Governor Koster told to reporters in Denpasar on Saturday (April 13, 2019).

"This shows that the international community recognizes that Bali has a genuine breed of dog with high quality and deserves to participate in prestigious competitions at national and international levels," he said.

Governor Koster reminded that this recognition must also be motivated by all elements of the Balinese community to better preserve and develop local animals and plants. "Our nature is extraordinary, we have many native and quality animals, such as Bali Starling and Bali Cows. We must preserve these animals to maintain the uniqueness of Bali's natural ecosystems and to increase the competitive advantage for the local economy, "Koster said.

Governor Koster conveyed his appreciation to the IKK (Indonesia Kennel Klub) and all lovers of the Kintamani Bali Dog who for years have struggled to get this native Balinese dog breed to gain international recognition.

The acknowledgment letter was submitted to Governor Koster by Benny Kwok as general chairman of the Indonesia Kennel Klub (IKK) at a press conference at the Main Wiswasabha building of the Governor of Bali's office on Saturday (April 13, 2019).

Benny Kwok Wie Sioe said that the Kintamani Bali Dog was the first Indonesian native dog to gain world recognition. "This recognition means that FCI officially announced to the whole world that the Kintamani Bali Dog is a dog breed in its own right and that the Kintamani Bali Dog is an Indonesian native dog," he said.

IKK, formerly called Perkin (Perkumpulan Kinologi Indonesia), is the only dog-loving organization in Indonesia that has the right to issue official documents about the birth and pedigree of dogs.

He said, currently IKK has 60,000 members throughout Indonesia. The members operate the kennel — official and registered breeding facilities, training and dog care.

The official recognition of the FCI is stated in a letter sent by the FCI Executive Director Yves De Clercq to the IKK. "The FCI General Committee on February 20, 2019 has officially agreed to give recognition to the breed 'Dog Kintamani Bali' ... We congratulate the IKK for this extraordinary achievement," De Clercq said.

With this recognition, the Kintamani Bali Dog has the right to participate in a number of certain dog competitions and shows at the international level. In addition, birth certificates and genealogies for each Kintamani Bali Dog are also entitled to be marked with the FCI logo.

Before the admission proposal was submitted to the FCI General Committee, the proposal was examined and tested first by two different committees: the Standardization Committee and the Scientific Committee. Without the consent of the two committees, the proposal will not be discussed by the FCI General Committee. "After official recognition, FCI will continue to monitor the development of the Kintamani Bali Dog for 10 years. If this breed shows positive developments both in terms of quantity and quality, then the status will be raised, "he said.

FCI was founded in 1911 by five founding countries (Germany, Belgium, France, Netherlands, Austria). FCI now has 96 members around the world and has a head office in Belgium. (Balitopnews.com/Amo Bali)
